Zero Stars, No Limits: The Trinidad Chambliss Story.

Trinidad Chambliss is starting quarterback for the Ole Miss Rebels.

Trinidad Chambliss was never supposed to play Division I football let alone become the face of a historic college program like the Ole Miss Rebels. Yet throughout his young career, if there is one thing he should be known for is his ability to blow out expectations. 

Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to a family of multi-sport athletes, Trinidad followed the tradition playing both basketball and Football as a quarterback during his high school years. Surprisingly, basketball was the sport Chambliss hoped to pursue professionally. Unfortunately after unimpressive seasons in both sports he’d be named a zero-star recruit and receive little to none collegiate offers. Offers Chambliss received to play football were considerably better than the ones received from basketball, leading to his eventual decision to commit to the Ferris State Bulldogs to play quarterback in Division II football. 

Chambliss credits his decision to commit to Ferris State due to the togetherness he felt from the facility, coaches, and players as well as his parents' positive view of the Bulldogs. Though the new Ferris State quarterback would embrace division II football and take pride in the school that took a chance on him, it wouldn't stop him from feeling as if he was underrated and underrecruited.

Throughout his four seasons at the college, he would only receive significant play time in fourth year, during the 2024 season. After a week 0 loss, Chambliss would prove to be deserving of the playing time when after receiving support from his teammates he would finish the season undefeated and lead the team to a division II national championship. 

With an impressive 26 touchdowns to only 6 interceptions, Chambliss felt as if he had proven himself at the division II football level, so with the support of his coaching staff and family he would enter the transfer portal. The former Ferris State quarterback would not be seen as a top prospect and for a majority of programs would only be valued as a backup quarterback.

Temple would see potential in Chambliss as a starting quarterback and offer him a $300,000 scholarship to commit to them but after Ole Miss would extend an offer worth double Temple’s offer, Chambliss would make the decision to become Ole Miss’ new backup quarterback. He credits this decision because of the familiar family atmosphere he felt at Ferris State also being at Ole Miss. 

As a redshirt senior at Ole Miss, for the 2025 season, Chambliss was expected to be nothing more than Austin Simmons’ backup a role he would embrace until an unforeseen injury would sideline Simmons in week one. Chambliss would finish the game and lead the Rebels to a 63-7 blowout against Georgia State.

Chambliss’ performance in the game was solid but nothing to write home about, but after Austin Simmons would return in the starting role in the next game to underperform and throw two interceptions, Chambliss would be named starter the following game. He’d never give up the starting job and would lead the Rebels into the college football playoffs while finishing the season with 3937 passing yards and 22 touchdowns.

Drama would strike Ole Miss during the playoffs when head coach Lane Kiffin would leave the Rebels to coach at LSU while taking other coaches with him. With a depleted coaching staff and new first time head coach in Pete Golding, Chambliss would somehow find a way to lead the rebels towards two wins before losing to Miami in a competitive semifinal matchup.  

Chambliss would prove himself right about being underrated and underrecruited with his strong performances at Ole Miss earning him 8th place in Heisman voting. With no more college football eligibility, many expected him to take the next step up in competition and declare for the NFL draft.

But, Chambliss would shock the college football world and apply for a medical redshirt for a past season, claiming persistent respiratory issues alongside chronic tonsillitis prevented him from playing a full season at Ferris State in the past. The NCAA would decline but after Ole Miss and Chambliss’ legal team took the decision to legal court, the NCAA would be forced to grant him another year of eligibility. Heading into his true final season of college football at Ole Miss, Chambliss has already broken every expectation.
