Arch Manning is the most polarizing quarterback in college football. Ever since his debut, he's been under intense scrutiny every single game, and the reason is simple: his last name. The Manning surname is football royalty.

He's also the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning. His uncle Peyton, who played for the Indianapolis Colts, is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, a two time Super Bowl champion (one with the Colts, one with the Denver Broncos) and a five time NFL MVP.

Eli Manning who is Peyton Manning’s younger brother has a impressive resume as well. He wasn’t as a prolific passer as Peyton. But he is considered to be one of the most clutch players in NFL history. He defeated the power house 18-0 New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII with the famous helmet-catch play, and beat them again in Super Bowl XLVI.

Beating Tom Brady who is regarded as the greatest quarterback of all time and the New England Patriots especially in two superbowls is an incredible accomplishment. Eli is a two super bowl champion and two time superbowl mvp with the New York Giants.

Last year Arch Manning’s debut was highly anticipated.

In his debut the Texas Longhorns had to face off against the defending champions the Ohio State Buckeyes. I have never seen that much buzz for a season opener in college football ever. The Manning name holds a lot of weight in the football world. It’s no surprise sports media was just spamming Arch Manning narratives before his debut.

From a performance standpoint Arch Manning had an underwhelming game. His final statline was 1 touchdown, 1 interception, for 170 passing yards. Ohio State beat Texas 14-7 in the season opener (Aug. 30, 2025, at Ohio Stadium. After this game Arch Manning’s performances were not the best through early parts of the season even going into the middle of the season. Towards the end of the season he definitely turned it around.

Many analysts and fans alike criticized Arch's performances, along with his throwing motion. In his first season as a starter, though, he delivered big wins over the No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners, Mississippi State, the No. 9 Vanderbilt Commodores, the No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies, and the No. 18 Michigan Wolverines.

His final statline for his redshirt Sophomore year was 3,163 passing yards, for 26 touchdowns, 7 interceptions and 10 rushing touchdowns. So many analysts and fans had unrealistic expectations for Arch Manning as his first year as starter. He has been put under a microscope. Arch Manning and Shedeur Sanders have arguably been the two most heavily scrutinized quarterbacks of the past 20 years. Whether they struggle or deliver a standout performance, their family name takes over the conversation.

I believe that Arch Manning can have a heisman trophy season this year especially with his All-American wide receiver room. For the 2026 season he is surrounded by an upgraded cast. A key wide receiver Ryan Wingo returns, you have Emmet Mosley V, then you have an elite transfer portal addition 6’3 Cam Coleman from Auburn. Also true freshman Jermaine Bishop Jr is also in the mix who has been receiving high praise from Steve Sarksian and former Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant.

I expect Arch Manning to come out with a different level of confidence this year. I know he has been in the lab with his Uncles Peyton and Eli this off season. Many critics were bashing Arch Manning last year. Look for Arch Manning to have improved mechanics, accuracy, and decision making. Arch Manning plays nothing like his Uncles at all. He is the first dual threat Manning to come out of their family lineage. If he is able to progress as a passer things could get scarier for opposing defenses. Can you really count out the kid that the potential to be the best Manning of all time?
